*Friday of the 27th Sunday after Trinity*
Dear Saints and Friends of Grace & Trinity,
*The First Sunday of Advent*

Jeremiah 23:5-8; Romans 13:8-14; Matthew 21:1-9 <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=9996858&l=76e145fa-d2a8-42a3-866a-cbf6ec37dd7f&r=d4775950-3c33-4d29-860c-7b6678f94ae6>
Advent celebrates our Lord’s coming—in the flesh (Christmas), in judgment (Last Day), and in grace (Word & Sacrament). It’s a time of joyful, yet repentant preparation. Fasting is encouraged, as is the added devotion to the Word (join us Wednesday nights!). Liturgically, there are four things to notice: 1) the color is blue (though, traditionally purple); 2) our time is marked by the Advent wreath, each candle slowly bringing us closer to Christmas; 3) pay attention to the collect this week—it will be repeated each week during the season after the collect for the day; 4) we omit the *Gloria in Excelsis *until we sing it again at Christmas with the Angels.
This Sunday we lift up our souls to the Lord (*ad te levavi*), as it says in our Introit from Ps 25:1. We lift up our souls as well as our hearts as the Lord triumphantly enters Jerusalem, riding on to die for us and to deliver His body and blood to us. Join us this *Sunday at 8am at Grace* and *11am at Trinity* as our Lord stirs up His power and comes to save us from our sin.
*Bible Study is at 9:30am at Trinity. *We’re taking a brief break from Revelation and will take a closer look at the Season of Advent. Please join us!

· *Advent* is here! Join us each Wednesday of December at Trinity in preparation for the Lord’s coming—His ‘*advent’—*for a meal at 6pm and a Compline Service at 7pm. We’ll take up the Latin title for the week and see how the Introit prayers prepare us for the Lord’s coming.
· *Nativity Play*: Amelia Schneider, one of our high school members at Trinity, would like to direct a Nativity play with the children. We’ll have the play
· *White Tube Socks for the Homeless*: The Board of Social Ministry at Grace is filling tube socks for the homeless again this year. We need your help in filling them with goodies. Some suggested items are: hard candy, small packages of snacks, “Slim Jims,” playing cards, small first aid items, trial size toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. We will collect these items until Sunday, Dec 13th. Items for donation can be left in the narthex at Grace or Trinity in the Food Pantry collection box. Thank you!
· *Christmas Baskets for our homebound members*: Grace’s Board of Social Ministry will put together (with your help) some goodies this year to be delivered to our dear homebound members. We’d love to have a few baked goods, small personal religious items like (a cross, bible verses, little trinkets, ornaments) crossword puzzle books, socks, blankets, etc. If you would like to donate, please place your items in the narthex in the food pantry box. We’ll be collecting these until Dec 13th. Thank you and God bless your giving hearts.
· *Trinity Ingathering: *We are collecting socks, gloves, mittens, and hats for the ICT Homeless Coalition. Items may be hung on the tree or put in the box in the Narthex.
· *Two items from the Sedgwick County Health Department:*
o *No-Cost COVID-19 Testing: *SCHD offers no-cost COVID-19 testing for Sedgwick County residents who would like to be tested. This includes people with or without COVID-19 symptoms and is available through SCHD by calling (316) 660-1022 to schedule an appointment. For more testing locations or mobile outreach testing options, see: www.sedgwickcounty.org/covid-19/testing-information.
o *COVID-19 Vaccine Survey: *SCHD is planning for COVID-19 vaccine distribution. Residents in south-central Kansas, including Sedgwick County, are asked to complete an anonymous survey. This voluntary, on-line survey will take five to ten minutes to complete and is available at: www.surveymonkey.com/r/SCKCOVID19. Survey responses will help SCHD estimate how many people will get a COVID-19 vaccine when one becomes available and inform understanding of the factors influencing survey respondents’ decisions whether or not to obtain a vaccine. The survey does not collect identifiable information. Respondents may address questions or concerns by contacting Elizabeth Ablah, PhD, MPH at eablah@kumc.edu. For questions about the rights of research participants, please contact the KUMC Institutional Review Board (IRB) at 913-588-1240.
*Prayer Requests…*
· Irma Quade’s sister, Judy Mattson, fell asleep in Christ this week. Prayers for the whole family.
Many blessings and much joy to you all in Christ our life,
-Pastor
