This Sunday is the Sunday of the Word. We’ll hear the parable of the sower—or, perhaps we should say: “the parable of the soils.” We’ll also sing one of my all-time favorite hymns, “Preach You the Word” (LSB 586) by Martin Franzmann. I’m particularly drawn to the “*reckless love*” of stanza 3 by which He sows His word. I also love the line “*Ah, what of that, Lord, what of that!*” *Join us at 8am at Grace and 11am at Trinity as our Lord continues to sow His seed and bring forth His crop, even 100-fold!*

o Our Lord gives us three spiritual disciplines in the Sermon on the Mount: Almsgiving, Prayer, and Fasting <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=11067869&l=b92a6dd9-9384-4483-94d9-0ee922634521&r=6d3ccd5b-59a3-4e0d-9089-eef5c9a8bef3>. The Church of God is always engaged in all three, though there are times when we increase our practice and awareness, such as during Lent (there are other times such usually around vigils, such as Pentecost, as well as the Season of Advent and Ember Days – more on that later!). Usually this is said that during Lent we “give something up”. But I would encourage you to think of it in the biblical terms of fasting. This will help propel us to consider what the Scriptures say on fasting and help us to understand why fasting is part of the Christian life. o Also, our Lenten custom is to have a light meal prior to our Wednesday night Vespers service. These meals and services will be held at Grace: meal at 6pm, Vespers at 7pm. During the meal, from 6-6:45pm, I’ll also be available in the sanctuary, offering another opportunity for Private Confession and Absolution.

· Bridget Schneider asks for prayers for her co-worker’s 16-month-old daughter, Zoe Scharnhorst, and her family. Zoe, who has Down’s Syndrome, was diagnosed this weekend with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome a severe form of epilepsy. This is my co-worker’s second daughter; her first daughter who is four also has Down’s Syndrome. Thank you.
