*Commemoration of Constantine and his mother, Helena,*
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
Dear Saints and Friends of Grace & Trinity,
This Sunday is
T* the Feast of Pentecost *T
Genesis 11:1-9; Acts 2:1-21; John 14:23-31 <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=12994647&l=9190ea33-4cc8-41e9-9b0f-ce9eee66d1e0&r=b3909e2f-9c4f-4a13-9a7a-36dc2a024883>
*Today *the Church commemorates Constantine and Helena. Constantine I served as Roman Emperor from A.D. 306 to 337. During his reign the persecution of Christians was forbidden by the Edict of Milan in 312, and ultimately the faith gained full imperial support. Constantine took an active interest in the life and teachings of the church and called the Council of Nicaea in 325 at which orthodox Christianity was defined and defended. His mother, Helena (ca. 255-329), strongly influenced Constantine. Her great interest in locating the holy sites of the Christian faith led her to become one of the first Christian pilgrims to the Holy Land. Her research led to the identification of Biblical locations in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and beyond, which are still maintained as places of worship today.
*Tomorrow *the Church begins her celebration of the Feast of Pentecost with a *Vigil Vespers* service at *Trinity at 5:30pm*. Immediately following the Vespers, we will examine our two confirmands in the faith. This examination is NOT a test like they might take in school (*it is finals week after all…*). No, there are no grades at this exam, no partial credits given, no placements depending on how well they do. This examination is an opportunity for these two saints of God to testify to the hope within them. It’s an opportunity to say back to God what He has said and revealed of Himself. They will express the faith that they’ve been taught according to the Small Catechism and speak of their desire to receive the Holy Things of God—chief of which are His Body and His Blood. Please come and encourage Ben and Sophia in this confession of which we all share.
*This Sunday *is the Feast of Pentecost, which celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, who proclaim Christ and Him crucified for the life of the world. *Join us at Grace at 8am and Trinity at 11am* to receive the Spirit through the continuation of the Apostolic ministry and give thanks and praise to God for His mighty works among us.
*Bible Study* this week is at *Trinity* at 9:30am. We’re completing Revelation 19 and moving into chapter 20. Join us!

· *June 2-5 *~ 4th Annual EDI Florovsky-Newman Week. I can’t express enough how important this sort of ecumenical dialogue is for the life of the Church. Please don’t be frightened by the “academic” character of the event—I guarantee that you will be blessed by the presentations and the discussion that follows. Please CLICK HERE <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=12994647&l=9a9fd5ca-537f-4543-8e42-8a407169c97a&r=b3909e2f-9c4f-4a13-9a7a-36dc2a024883> and register for the event—we’re more concerned to get folks there than we are for how much you’re able to pay. That’s how important these conversations are. Plus, if you register for the banquet, let me know—I’ll try to set aside a table or two for us.
*Other things…*
· *Another plug for the request for hospitality *(thank you to those who have already responded!): high schoolers from Iowa are on their way to Higher Things, traveling to Austin, TX. Might we have several families willing to house some of this group for a night *Monday, July 26*, and possibly give a quick breakfast before they leave early morning *Tuesday, July 27th*? They’d arrive in Wichita on Monday, sometime 9-11pm and leave Tuesday around 5:30-6am. They’ll have one adult male (Pr. Egger), one HS boy, two adult women, eight HS girls. They can divide into homes however is most convenient. Please let me know if you can help with this!
· *Here’s your opportunity to participate in the LWML National Convention in Lexington, KY. June 24 to 27, 2021. **LOIS WINTER will be attending in person and will participate in the PHOTO FINISH MISSION WALK on the 26th so we’re asking for your donations which will go to the overall MISSION GOAL of the LWML. Cash or checks can be deposited in the big Mite Box in the narthex before June 13th. Please make checks payable to **TRINITY LADIES’ GUILD. *Thank you and may God richly bless this convention and all participants… and you for your generous donation.
· *Trinity Ladies Guild/LWML* will be collecting items for Lutheran World Relief Personal Care Kits between June 6 and August 22. There will be boxes in the Narthex to put your donations in. If you want us to purchase the items for you, please put monetary donations in the large Mite Box in an envelope marked Personal Care Kits. We will be collecting the following items: light-weight dark colored bath towels, bath size bars of soap, adult size toothbrushes, metal nail clippers, sturdy combs. The kits will be assembled and boxed on September 11 at 9:30 am.
