*Ember Saturday of Pentecost*
Dear Saints and Friends of Grace & Trinity,
This Sunday is
T* the Festival of the Holy Trinity *T
Isaiah 6:1–7; Romans 11:33–36; John 3:1–17 <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=13149685&l=92449df3-88f1-4d93-bc81-529883850ece&r=d7db1303-f73f-486a-a3e6-42b02efd0ad5>
*Ember Days – *“The Ember Days comprise the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday of the week following the first Sunday in Lent (Invocabit); the week between Pentecost and Trinity Sunday; the week following the Feast of the Holy Cross (September 14); and the week following the Commemoration of St. Lucia (December 13). Traditionally, the Western Church observed four periods, roughly one for each of the natural seasons of the year, seeking God’s blessings upon the fruits of the earth and acknowledging that all food comes from Him. Fasting, prayer, and almsgiving as prescribed by the Church marked the three days of each Embertide. In the Church of the Reformation, these days marked a season of piety especially devoted to preaching on the catechism. Today the Ember Days can be a time to give special attention to the elements and fundamentals of Christian knowledge and life found in the catechism. The Ember Days were originally days of prayer, repentance, and fasting. After the Reformation, the Ember Days themselves became for Lutherans one of the roots of the evangelical ‘days of repentance.’ The traditional themes of repentance can be used in one’s daily prayer in a way that is already familiar, as a Day of Supplication and Prayer. Hymns of confession and absolution would be suitable. The appointed *lectio continua *readings of daily prayer are retained. In prayers, it would be fitting of the days to ask to be forgiven of guilt, to be spared from punishment, and to pray the Collect for Peace.” – *Treasury of Daily Prayer, *21
*Tomorrow *the Church celebrates the Festival of the Holy Trinity. It’s a bit of an odd feast, commemorating who God is in the mystery of His identity, rather than a particular act of His incarnate life. As such, it draws us into contemplation and wonder, while also strengthening our faith and love. As is our custom, we’ll recite the Athanasian Creed during the service as our Gradual. You can hear a bit about the Athanasian Creed here <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=13149685&l=c2bd4453-6aa8-40cf-ad5d-61236f319cde&r=d7db1303-f73f-486a-a3e6-42b02efd0ad5> .
*Also, it’s Joint-Parish Sunday! *Join us at *Trinity *for *Bible study* at *9:30am* and *Divine Service* *at 11am* to thank, praise, serve, and obey the Blessed, Holy Trinity. Then, please join us for a Pot-Luck after the service. Bring something to share!

· *June 2-5 *~ 4th Annual EDI Florovsky-Newman Week. I can’t express enough how important this sort of ecumenical dialogue is for the life of the Church. Please don’t be frightened by the “academic” character of the event—I guarantee that you will be blessed by the presentations and the discussion that follows. Please CLICK HERE <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=13149685&l=fd56e180-4e90-4b97-a1ff-7209e3f0a6b9&r=d7db1303-f73f-486a-a3e6-42b02efd0ad5> and register for the event—we’re more concerned to get folks there than we are for how much you’re able to pay. That’s how important these conversations are. Plus, if you register for the banquet, let me know—I’ll try to set aside a table or two for us.
· *Summer Schedule: *For June and July we’ll not have Wednesday Bible Study, Divine Service, or youth Catechesis.
· *Vacation:* As usual, I’ll be taking the family up to MI for the Summer. I’ll be gone 6/8-18. If there is any need during that time, please contact Pastor Metzger.
*Other things…*
· The June Newsletter is now available! In it I discuss the Salutation and Collect of the Divine Service. Here’s Trinity’s Torch <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=13149685&l=5e469a5e-a2e0-4161-9e56-1923585bc15d&r=d7db1303-f73f-486a-a3e6-42b02efd0ad5> and Grace’s Grace Notes <ec2-52-26-194-35.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/x/d?c=13149685&l=478c658b-15f5-4962-b610-7e424f3432ae&r=d7db1303-f73f-486a-a3e6-42b02efd0ad5>. · *New Circuit Visitor: *As of the beginning of June, our Circuit of Churches in the Kansas District will have a new Circuit Visitor, Pr. Mark Lovett of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wichita. We thank God for the service of Pr. Tom Johnson of Faith Lutheran, Derby and look forward to the oversight and visitation of Pr. Lovett.
· *Another plug for the request for hospitality *(thank you to those who have already responded!): high schoolers from Iowa are on their way to Higher Things, traveling to Austin, TX. Might we have several families willing to house some of this group for a night *Monday, July 26*, and possibly give a quick breakfast before they leave early morning *Tuesday, July 27th*? They’d arrive in Wichita on Monday, sometime 9-11pm and leave Tuesday around 5:30-6am. They’ll have one adult male (Pr. Egger), one HS boy, two adult women, eight HS girls. They can divide into homes however is most convenient. Please let me know if you can help with this!
· *Here’s your opportunity to participate in the LWML National Convention in Lexington, KY. June 24 to 27, 2021. **LOIS WINTER will be attending in person and will participate in the PHOTO FINISH MISSION WALK on the 26th so we’re asking for your donations which will go to the overall MISSION GOAL of the LWML. Cash or checks can be deposited in the big Mite Box in the narthex before June 13th. Please make checks payable to **TRINITY LADIES’ GUILD. *Thank you and may God richly bless this convention and all participants… and you for your generous donation.
· *Trinity Ladies Guild/LWML* will be collecting items for Lutheran World Relief Personal Care Kits between June 6 and August 22. There will be boxes in the Narthex to put your donations in. If you want us to purchase the items for you, please put monetary donations in the large Mite Box in an envelope marked Personal Care Kits. We will be collecting the following items: light-weight dark colored bath towels, bath size bars of soap, adult size toothbrushes, metal nail clippers, sturdy combs. The kits will be assembled and boxed on September 11 at 9:30 am.
