7 August 2020 Friday of Trinity 8

Dear Saints and Friends of Grace & Trinity,

*SUNDAY – TRINITY 9 *
✞ the Sunday of the Unjust Steward ✞
2 Samuel 22:26–34; 1 Corinthians 10:6-13; Luke 16:1-13

Sunday’s Gospel is one of those strange texts. The steward was wasting the master’s possessions. (That’s bad.) He’s called to account and let go. What’s he do next? He can’t do much else in life, so he goes to the clients (apparently no longer with authority to do so) and forgives their debts—some by as much as half! And just when we expect the Master to come full of wrath, He doesn’t. In fact, He *commends *the unjust steward! What’s more: Jesus encourages us to do similarly, “*And I tell you, make friends for yourselves by means of unrighteous wealth, so that when it fails they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.*” (Lk 16:13) *J**oin us this Sunday at 8am at Grace and 11am at Trinity as we try to make sense of all of this! *

*Bible Study is at 9:30am at Grace between the services. *We’ll continue our study of the Revelation of St. John.

*For those not yet joining us in person*, here is the bulletin for Sunday  to follow along with at home. Please remember to give your offering to the Lord for the service of the Church, either by mailing a check or donating through our PayPal account (Grace, Trinity). I know this is a difficult financial time for many, so if you need assistance, please let us know! We are so thankful for the continued generosity shown to both congregations during this time. Also, here are the news/notes and the congregation at prayer for Sunday. If you’ve missed any of the services and don’t have FB, please see my YouTube channel.

*Other things…*
· I’m still looking for someone willing to live-stream the service at Trinity. If you’re willing, let me know. Thanks!
· The 4th Annual Lutheran Men’s Retreat is coming up next month, Sept 18-19 at the Herington Retreat Center. If you’ve never been, you won’t want to miss out. We’ll be discussing Anthony Esolen’s book *Defending Boyhood*, which is an incredible case for urging boys to be boys, and in so doing, training them to be men. Registration is $35, which covers lodging and food, as well as a copy of the book. RSVP to me (e-mail, text, or call). Checks made payable to Trinity with “Men’s Retreat” in the memo. Space is limited to 30.
· Trinity LWML is assembling School Kits. What’s needed: 70-sheet spiral notebooks, rulers, 24-count crayons, blunt safety scissors, and pencil sharpeners. There’s a box in the Narthex for donations until September 20.
· Coming up on *August 23rd* the Churches are planning a *Joint-Parish Sunday* in celebration of my 10th anniversary of ordination and service here at Grace & Trinity. I’m not sure whether the location or schedule has yet been determined but mark your calendars. We’re honored to have Pr. Warren Graff come and preach (he’s the one that preached at my ordination, too).
· If you’re not already subscribed to Eighth Day Institute’s *Digital Synaxis,* a weekly conglomeration of news, theology, culture, and poetry, then you really should. It’s free and full of great insights.

We had a really great time in MI and I’m glad to have the family back as well. We’re all looking forward to seeing you this weekend.

Many blessings and much joy to you all in Christ our life,
-Pastor
